Income Tax Act s. 12(11)
Anniversary Day
The anniversary day of an investment contract, such as a bond, debenture, or
other debt obligation means
- the day that is one year less a day after the date of
issue of the contract (the date the contract was initially issued),
- the day that occurs at every successive one year interval from the
day determined under (a) above, and
- the day on which the contract was disposed of
For instance, if a bond is issued on June 1, 2026:
- the first anniversary day would be May 31, 2027
- May 31st would be the anniversary day in each year up to maturity
If a taxpayer purchases the above bond on October 6, 2026 and sells it
on August 9, 2027:
- the first anniversary day would be May 31, 2027
- the next anniversary day would be August 9, 2027
