Anniversary Day

The anniversary day of an investment contract, such as a bond, debenture, or other debt obligation means

  1. the day that is one year less a day after the date of issue of the contract (the date the contract was initially issued),
  2. the day that occurs at every successive one year interval from the day determined under (a) above, and
  3. the day on which the contract was disposed of

For instance, if a bond is issued on June 1, 2009:

bulletthe first anniversary day would be May 31, 2010
bulletMay 31st would be the anniversary day in each year up to maturity

If a taxpayer purchases the above bond on October 6, 2009 and sells it on August 9, 2010:

bulletthe first anniversary day would be May 31, 2010
bulletthe next anniversary day would be August 9, 2010
